Leicestershire Veterans Over 50s Reports
9th October 2011 - vs Northampton - Won 9-3
Our first match of the new season and a new team as we said goodbye to our Captain Colin Noronha ,plus Elaine Trevor and Girish Tailor all moving up to the 55`s
New captain Tahir Mahmood welcomed Ian Bosworth moving from the 45`s and Debbie Dy and Ivett Goodman making returns to the County set up.
We started well winning 3 mens and 3 ladies , just needing to win 1 mixed from the final 4 matches
As we had all 4 courts all the mixed went on together, first to finish were Jane Roberts and Girish Tailor who notched up a comprehensive 21-11 , 21-16 win
This did not make us complacent and we went on to win 3 of the mixed matches
An excellent all round team performance
Played 1 Won 1
30th November 2011 - vs Lincolnshire - Won 7-5
Due to injuries we needed to find a 4th man and Pete Goadby stepped in at late notice, at even later notice Elaine Trevor stepped in when Sue Mahmood strained her calf muscle on Thursday evening. We welcomed Abdul Gaffar who played for his first County cap.
We knew it was going to be a tough match when the men had three 3 setters and split their matches 2-2
The women went one better and came out 3-1 on top, Sue Gilliat and Jane Roberts winning both their matches
This left us needing to win 2 of the mixed
First up where Tahir and Elaine and they won 21-12 , 21-16
Our 2nd and 3rd pairs fought hard but lost, which left it to the final match
A nail biting three setter went our way 21-12 , 17-21 , 21-12
Well played Pete and Debbie and an heroic performance from captain Tahir Mahmood winning all his 3 matches
Highlights of the day ........the samosas and Pete Goadby`s backhand clear !
