My Name is Carole Spencer (club coach) and I have been running the Whitwick Juniors Badminton club for over 30yrs. I now run it with the help of my daughter , we are both Level 2 coaches.
The main aim of the club is for children to learn new skills to enable them to play badminton in a safe and friendly environment and to have fun whilst doing it.
We have a membership of 50 players of all ages , some as young at 7yrs old and some 17yrs old.
We like to encourage the older players to help out with the youngsters which the players love, many have gone onto take their coaching awards.
We encourage all players to work hard and have fun in their training session. Its also important that we encourage the more keen players to have the opportunity to attend the county trials and Performance Centre , which many do. But that isn't for everyone, some are satisfied with just attending the weekly club sessions which is fine.
We have an active social life ,this season we ran a badminton glow in the dark session which was enjoyed by all and will be repeated. An Olympic themed club event a pool party and an end of season Family morning.
Its important that the children feel apart of a well organised and friendly club, where everyone looks out for each other, if they are enjoying what they are doing they are more likely to continue. We are very proud of all our members and enjoy working them .
The progression of our players as they reach adults is attending senior clubs, and for some to play senior county. We are pleased and very proud to say that The Whitwick Ladies team are Div. 1 Champions for the 3rd year, and not to be left out the lads played their part in gaining top place in the Hall mixed leagues. All the plays started their playing career at the junior club.
